San Francisco Bay Folkboat Association Wednesday Evening Race Series at the St. Francis Yacht Club. After weeks of chilly fog, this was a gorgeous evening with sun and good wind and a light 1.9 knot flood tide. Race desk personnel included Svend Svendsen (PRO), Catherine Orr Official Timer, Cassandra Kaiser and Ed Welsh manning the shotgun. Eric Kaiser, USA-122 won going away keeping competion close with Sean Svendsen of the Knarr fleet for the coveted Degnan perpetual trophy, which is awarded to the overall top finisher for the Wednesday Evening season. It will all come down to the final race next week, August 25, 2010.
The 394 foot long white yacht in the background anchored off Sausalito is named "A" after the 38 year old owner, Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko and his wife Alexsandra. It cost $300 million to build and $20 million a year to operate. I wonder if they have as much fun as we do. Eric Kaiser's drag race to the finish on the last windward leg against the San Francisco Belle is something you couldn't stage if you tried.
