The San Francisco Bay Folkboat Association has a long standing tradition of holding a picnic on Angel Island on Easter Sunday. This year's Easter was in the midst of a major Pacific storm, and thus, the picnic had to be postponed. The rescheduled event was held on Sunday, August 1st. The day started with foggy and windy conditions, very much as described by Mark Twain, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco". The conditions couldn't chill the camaraderie of those in attendance, which of course was helped with the free-flowing champagne. David Thompson & Evie Ashcroft provided the essential logistic support by transporting supplies over in their Grand Banks Zambezi. Bob Grigsby arrived in his impeccable wooden Folkboat, USA-65 Kirstin, with two guests from Austria. Many veteran Folkboaters came, including Don & Joan Wilson, Bob & Dorothy Frey, Jim Bryan, Otto Schreier & Patty Webb, Michael & Dora Weber, Terry Holmes, Raymond Ritter, Andrea & Heinz Baumann and their sons Gabriel and Raphael, Brock de Lappe & Faith Weber. The traditional all white attire was optional, though many came in full dress. The fog eventually burned off and everyone enjoyed good food, good company and remembrances of races from years past where rudders were lost. Folkboats Forever!
